After Good Friday: Learning from Experience and Evolving Identity

The 1998 Belfast or Good Friday Agreement was something new: an all-Ireland agreement on a common project of self-governance between the unionist and nationalist communities. The shaky survival over a quarter-century of the institutions it established encourages hope. Whether it will be judged historic depends on whether it leads to change in the long-term pattern of history.
